Cookie and the Kingcakes, Joe Nadeau, Professor Porkchop, Dan Sanchez and his Kings of Pleasure and the Keith Horton Project have pitched their musical energies into what's billed as a Help Keep the Doors Open and Legal Defense Party for the Noble Savage Tavern, says Chef Mark Colby.

Over a considerable number of years the Noble Savage has established itself as a place for blues, R n B and jazz. It is a home for musical improv. It has hosted folkies on the Austin to Chicago route and been a place where Dirtfoot fans have found excellent crowd compression.

So, yes; I'm in for a couple of tickets.

The Savage holds an important niche in Shreveport. It's mainly a place for adults who love live music. It's also a place where young players can develop their chops and expand their audience.

Doyle Jeter, proprietor of Enoch's in Monroe and a former Shreveporter, says the Noble Savage is an important stop for traveling talent. Some of the bands he supports can tour in his direction because they can stop at the Noble Savage.

The Noble Savage is also a symbol of urbanity. The long, narrow room with big mahogany bar is redolent of New Orleans or Chicago. Chef Colby's food has pleased a generation of downtowners. The beers! Quaffers of European brews have a home on Texas St.

It is likely that by Sunday at 3 pm quite a few more musicians will have signed on to this benefit.

A $10 ticket will get you buffet food and journeyman music. The commitment might bring out a few people who'll rediscover the Savage. Those who've always wondered what it was like will have an ideal shot at getting acquainted with a Shreveport institution.
Hope to see you there.
