The art of student robotry at SciPort: competition Sat, Ap 28, 3 pm

Robots! Teams from Broadmoor Middle Laboratory, Linwood, Ridgewood and Keithville middle schools will apply their skills toward becoming automation sensations, says Eric Gipson, in the first annual Middle School Robotics Competition. It's this Saturday at Sci-Port Discovery Center.

The day of ‘total technology’ will also include participation by the Shreveport Police Department, Caddo Parish School Board, LSUS, C.E. Byrd and Southwood high schools.

The middle school teams will be presented with their challenges at 9 a.m. and with laptop computers and robotics kits, design and build their contraptions until they are put to the test in the competition from 3 to 5 p.m.

Said Mike Asher, Sci-Port Vice-President of Exhibits and Programs. “This is a challenge and opportunity for the students, and it also makes for a great spectator event.”

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Middle school team design & build
11 – 11:30 a.m. Jeff Roberts overview of the Caddo Parish Math, Science & Technology Program
Noon – 1 p.m. C.E. Byrd High School physics class Lego exhibit
1 – 2 p.m. SPD Bomb Squad robotic demonstration
2 – 2:30 p.m. Southwood HS Robotics Team demonstration
3 – 5 p.m. Middle School Robotics Competition
