A stage full of singers and expert instrumentalists will wow audiences at the Civic Theater Sat, Dec 17, as the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra presents its holiday pops show.

Michael Butterman, the dashing young conductor, will leap upon his podium and seem to twirl in the air like a snowflake. Margaret Williams Jones, soloist, will hug his neck between each tune. The Red River Children's Chorus will fling its Santa hats into the audience. 'Twill be madcap Christmas madness.

Valet parking is limited. The shuttle is merry!

Menus & Music, a pre-concert dinner, will be held at the Cambridge Club. A portion of the proceeds benefit the SSO.

Packed house! The masterstroke of the evening was bringing the 3 choirs to the stage via the aisles in the audience. That was Maestro Butterman's idea, I was told. As the choristers sang in the aisles, the pungency of capable voices was sweet.

Several clever programming moments included a version of the Little Drummer Boy that was a take-off on Ravel's Bolero and a Twelve Gifts of Christmas that wittily proclaimed musical instruments as the dozen gifts.

Butterman also demonstrated an almost-folksy chat style that I think will prove popular with local audiences.
