Singing and dancing the title role in Shreveport Opera's production of Carmen - Sat, May 5, 7:30 pm - is Virginia Opera star Cristina Nassif. I love the Youtube video posted on the opening page of her web site.

While the opera's Nichole Clark says "Tickets have been selling like mad all day. I have almost nothing left," I would recommend you head to Riverview Theater and wait at Will Call for No shows.

The French opera Carmen, about an amoral Gypsy girl in Spain, was not a success in 1875. Innovative and too low-rent for its day, the work by Frenchman Georges Bizet has become a standard.
