Dirty Redd Crenshaw booked for stage role as Miles Davis in New Orleans-based production

Dirty Redd is "Ground Zero" of Shreveport Cool, writes Bruce Flett.

In an upcoming live production, Redd will be playing the part of Miles Davis. Written by renowned playwright David Louis Whitehead, "Miles Davis: Narration and Tunes" will premier in New Orleans and Shreveport. A national tour is in the planning stages.

Don Crenshaw is horn man Dirty Redd. For over five years he played trumpet for the legendary Johnny Taylor.

Redd has become a Shreveport musical landmark since soul crooner Taylor passed away years ago. Crenshaw leads his own band playing smooth jazz, old school R&B, and party songs at clubs, festivals, and special events of all kinds.

Redd is much in demand as a trumpet player, playing often with Robin & the Bluebirds, Caravan band, Denial, and other groups. He also is a very soulful singer with a style similar to Bill Withers.

Dirty Redd Jam hosts a jam session every Thursday at Noble Savage Tavern on Texas Street. Ft. Worth, Texas was his hometown. Now Shreveport has adopted him as their own.

Self Titled Dirty Redd , his first solo CD, has been released, containing 10 originals in his own "smooth jazz" style. "Ground Zero" is one of the featured tracks.
