In 1951 National Geographic featured Jean Despujols on Indochina; exhibit at Meadows Museum, Shreveport, Mar 15 to April 20

A fresh look at the importance of French artist Jean Despujols and his paintings of life in Indochina has opened at Meadows Museum, Centenary College, in an exhibit called The Calm Before The Storm: Jean Despujols' Portrait of Indochina.

In 1951 National Geographic and the Smithsonian Institution offered major exhibits of Despujols' paintings of life in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. The new exhibit at Meadows Museum of Art celebrates these events.

Despujols is a world class artist and documenter of the 1930's in Indochina. The principal collection of his work - some 360 pieces - is in Shreveport, his home after 1941.

Highly recommended.

Meadows is open Tues, Wed and Fri, noon to 4 pm. It is open Thursdays, noon to 5 pm. It is open on Sat and Sun, 1 pm to 4 pm.
