The LSU Shreveport Pioneer Heritage Center will host its annual Pioneer Day Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Center located on the LSUS campus.

Marty Young, director of the Pioneer Heritage Center says, “This is the 14th year for Pioneer Day. It was started as an Independent Study project in 1996, and has grown into what it is today. The event is not just to promote the Pioneer Heritage Center, but also a way for local folk life organizations and living historians to demonstrate their crafts.”

Pioneer Day will give a better understanding to the public about the diverse lifestyle of settlers and the struggles of surviving in a natural environment. There will be 7 historic buildings that will portray lifestyles, homes, beliefs and customs that have impacted Louisiana.

Admission for children under the age of five is free, and a $3.00 admission donation is requested for others. For more information call Marty Young at 318-797-5339.
