Thank you Robert for posting this info on your blog. Below are additional details about this wonderful night of classical and jazz music with orchestra:
We are pleased to present Continuing the Legacy: Soprano Candace Taylor in Concert at the Hurley School of Music of Centenary College on May 30 at 7:00PM. This concert will celebrate the lives & accomplishments of siblings Annette Pierson Poulard and Freddie Pierson, both of whom had a tremendous impact on Candace’s musical development. Annette and Freddie passed away in 2007, and their mother Ms. Juanita Pierson will be our guest of honor at the concert.
Accompanied by a professional orchestra of 30 musicians, Candace will perform such classics as ‘Vissi d’arte’ from Puccini’s Tosca and Dvořak’s Songs My Mother Taught Me. She will also be delivering standards that made her famous during her many years of jazz singing in the Shreveport area. Composers Tom Hundemer of Shreveport and Philippe Lévesque of Montreal will be signing brand new symphonic arrangements commissioned for this special occasion.
Profits from this spectacular event will benefit the Freddie Pierson Memorial Scholarship that will support underprivileged young musical artists in this community. Supporting, mentoring, and educating young musicians were keystones of Annette and Freddie’s musical philosophy. This concert continues their legacy by showcasing some of this area’s up and coming musical talent like mezzo-soprano Deedra Johnson and cellist Alexis Barnett accompanied by the orchestra and conducted by Marc-André Bougie. What an opportunity for these young artists to be featured in such a way!
We hope that you will join us at the event and that you will consider becoming $100 Patron Select concert-going sponsors with premium seating and attendance at the after-concert reception at the nearby Symphony House. Individual reserved tickets to the concert only can be ordered for $50 per ticket. In addition, sponsorships of individual musical selections in the concert are available with a $500 donation.
This concert is proudly sponsored by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Northwest Louisiana, the Performing Arts Studio of Shreveport and Candace Taylor & Marc-André Bougie.
Please order your ticket to this magnificent evening of music by calling 1-800-957-8667 or online at www.gsnla.org. Tickets are limited!
Support a generosity of spirit that can nurture the next generation of talented musical artists in this community via the Freddie Pierson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Help to continue the legacy that Freddie & Annette passed to Candace which together we can pass along to the next generation.
I just learned of this wonderful memorial--today of all days Thanksgiving. Thank you for honoring my Mother & Uncle in such a beautiful way. May God continue to bless you.
