Live from Karpeles Manuscript Museum this Friday at 7:30
p.m. will be Shirley Q. Liquor, along
with her alter-ego, Betty Bufferfield. As an evening promised to be full of
laughs, Shirley will regale the audience with her observations on modern
life.
Presented by River City Repertory Theatre, “A Night with
Shirley Q. Liquor” is the theatre company’s fall fundraiser. Tickets are $35,
and a cash bar will be available.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Patric McWilliams,
artistic director for the theatre. “She does a great show, so we are really
looking forward to it.”
“My character, Shirley Q. Liquor, was created in
celebration of, not to downgrade black women,” writes Chuck Knipp, the creator
of Shirley Q. Liquor. “[She], like most comedic characters, is a composite
woman from a person I know and my own creativity – and also a composite of
reverse stereotypes and cultural differences.”

Knipp, who is a former priest, R.N., EMT and politician,
created the character on his home message machine in 1992.
Karpeles Manuscript Museum is located at 3201 Centenary
Blvd. To reserve your ticket, call the
theatre’s box office at (318) 868-5888 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Crazy that this is going to be here in Shreveport. I still have the old mp3's from some radio show of which Shirley Q Liquor was a repeat guest. Downloaded them from Napster back in the late 90's.
