Reeta Karmarkar grew up in Delhi. Today she resides in Shreveport; her husband is Dr. Milon Karmakar. And she has brought Shreveport a bit of Delhi via her new restaurant, Utsav. "The recipes represent a fusion of the cooking of Northern India with other international influences," she explained. Her chef was cooking in Germany until March.
The cool interior was designed by Cindy Alford. "And we bought the fabrics and beads and art in India during Spring Break," said Karmakar.
Hours are 11 am to 2:00 pm for lunch and 5:30 to 9:30 (10:30 weekends) pm for supper. Utsav is located at the corner of Fern and Bert Kouns. More info? 629-0726.

Yum! Can't wait to try it!
I was THERE for a fantabulous meal. everyone at the table was impressed every dish. I recommend the place to anyone. welcome to Shreveport, Utsav!!!
I concur with the above statements. Everyone else should definitly come To Utsav and exprience the exotic taste of indian cusine, with fine dine.
I was there with four friends to celebrate with one of my friends marriage anniversary this day on 11/19/2006.Decor and ambience was very good. Menu was just below par; never understood of saag daal (spinach/lentils) combo never heard of in India (therefore not a ethnic cuisine at all by any means). Nan (form of idian bread) was served to us right when we were seating ourselves (not an Indian Tradition by any means again). We told the attendant that we woud like some hot ones later when we were ready to have full course she obliged but never returned for half an hour having served only two other occupied tables. After finally getting frustrated about the service, we finally approached the manager who finally showed up after waiting for five minutes, the manager was very aggressive and looked like he wanted to pick a fight with customers (us). When asked about the poor service, the manager replied "nothing is done by a press of a button in my area." I have never been disrespected so much. when asked about comment book, he reported they didn't have any. I will never go back to this restaurant or will recommend to anyone else. I rather go to India's Restaurant where you feel welcomed. Employees like this should not be working in this kind of business. I am highly disappointed at your hiring of such an employee with low ethics and has no clue about customer service. I hate to say all these things, but I am compelled as a honest person to let your other customers know about your staff.
This restaurant is better than Shreveport. I was astounded to find authentic Indian atmosphere/food/beer. Soooo many people claiming they "HATE CURRY!!!"
Take them here. They'll learn they never had good curry.
