A trio in Austin, Tx, the band Gashcat moved to Shreveport but continue to tour nationally; see NPR video from SXSW
Introducing a SXSW video, NPR.org said, "The Louisiana-based band Gashcat makes fantastically catchy, idiosyncratic rock and pop songs bursting with joy. We first heard the group at the 2012 South by Southwest music festival. But Gashcat returned to Austin in 2013 to give another thrilling, all-too-short performance."
SXSW said, "Gashcat started in the winter of 2010 as a drums/bass/guitar 3-piece band in Austin, TX, fronted by singer songwriter Kyle Craft and backed by Rick Hancock and Haley Massey. The band is in the process of putting together a new album to follow their full length, Reunion!, and their latest release, Devil Kid Demos. Gashcat is a noisy, fuzzy, shaky, folk rock band... that's all. Oh, and they live in Shreveport, LA now... They said you should come visit."

Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana: a trip across rock history with Dave Grohl in the movie "Sound City;" at the RFC through Thurs
Dave Grohl plays The Forum, London with Sound City Players 19/2/13, a photo by Nik Bakes Cakes on Flickr.
Sound City, a new documentary by Dave Grohl, is highly recommended for vivid rock history. From Neil Young and Tom Petty to Paul McCartney, the movie is a parade of top dog performers.
That being said, it is long at 108 mins. And it's a bit repetitive; almost everyone has to testify about the soulfulness of analog recording.
It is a fan film. Mostly it's a story about a non-descript Van Nuys, CA, studio where a ton of hit records were tracked.
Important milestones are covered - from the meeting of Buckingham-Nicks with Mick Fleetwood to the Kurt Cobain sessions for Nevermind.
The commentary is largely by pop figures Tom Petty, Mick Fleetwood, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor, Butch Vig and Rick Rubin.
The movie's finale is in Grohl's studio, where he has saved the Neve mixing board and Ampex tape machine from Sound City.
Btw, Shreveport also had a Sound City studio. It was located on Line Ave and engineer George Clinton also used 2" tape to cut some hot R n B sides. Alas, there were no hits.
Grohl brings in Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor and even Paul McCartney to celebrate the old gear. Those sessions are on a rockin' album called "Sound City: Real to Reel."
If you're a fan of guitars, drums and recording, do see the Grohl documentary. It's at Robinson Film Center - through Thurs.

Killthejindaltaxbill.com: concerned voters sending messages to the Louisiana legislature's Ways and Means Committee
"The Amer Advertising Federation of SB has decided to forge ahead with plans to expand our opposition to the entire tax bill, rather than simply the omission of "creative services'," says Danielle Williams.
"We feel this is an issue with a much broader reach than just our own industry, and are committed to spreading the word to as many Louisiana areas of business as possible. If we all work together, we'll be able to more effectively reach those with the power to shut this down."
See www.killthejindaltaxbill.com
and https://www.facebook.com/KillTheJindalTaxBill to have a centralized place to post related news articles and keep Louisiana residents informed of upcoming events and activities.
For now, we've learned that the best thing to do is reach out to every member of the Ways and Means committee and explain your own personal story and why you oppose this bill. See the forwarded message below for more details. Keep it short and simple and to the point. Please send a quick message before Tuesday, if possible, as meetings will begin next week to finalize this bill's somewhat rough draft.

Anatomically correct on Thurs night at the Naked Bean: jazzy, psychedelic improv by Tchai on Mar 28, 7 to 9 pm
Tracy Chappell leaps upon his finger army while floating the platoon cross the river on a flotilla of levitation effects.
Thus Tchai begins to touch listeners.
Robert Trudeau pops and snucks his Fender bass, at times sounding acoustic, other times sounding Grahamly crackery.
Greg Andrews pounds, caresses, beams and meters the time expertly, a child of the chronic sky.
Thurs the group will be joined by the radiant, thoughtful percussionist Lane Bayliss. Concentrating on his podnas' musicality, Bayliss reacts via the universal language of deeply felt drumming.
Join us. $3 donation.

Maggie Koerner & band @ Bears, Sat, Mar 16
See my recommendation in an earlier post. Didn't know she was bringing her band, which is smoakin' on the new album, Neutral Ground.
Hungry rock bands outdoors Mar 15, 16, 8 pm, in The Shell, Centenary College
The American Wilderness, performing Sat, about 8 pm, they say, are cool musicians. Psyche-alternatent is what I'd call them. Or guitar trance.
Otherwise . . . cannot find a line-up. Always fun.
Under the Shell, a lovely-looking if miserably-designed and superbly awkward amphitheater.

Taste of the new album from singer Maggie Koerner @ Bears, Fairfield, Sat, Mar 16
Maggie Koerner's voice and sassiness have never been smokier. On the eve of releasing her second album, she returns to Shreveport - from New Orleans - to wail at Bears on Sat, Mar 16.
April and Daniel Smalley will open with an acoustic set.
Koerner's new album, Neutral Ground, will drop next month. Having listened to a rough cut I can tell you it's molten. Like butter. It's better than her first CD, Quarter Life, because the songs are more organic.
The musicians she's found in New Orleans seem somehow simultaneously trippy and soulful. Her lyrics seem better than before.
Koerner and band have found the sweet spot for her throat and chest. When she opens a tune with a careless rendering of the lyrics she does so knowing that a few bars later she will be barking and moaning and cutting your shirt open with her voice, sharp as a knife.

Sex with a Strad: Philippe Quint performs with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra on Sat, Mar 16, 7:30 pm, Riverview Hall
One of the sexier of the world's rambling, ripping violinists, Philippe Quint was born in St Petersburg and made his orchestral debut at age nine, says Wikipededia.
He performs upon the 1708 "Ruby" Antonio Stradivari violin, which is on loan to him through the Stradivari Society. As much a challenge to performing must be seeing to the Strad's security as Quint criss-crosses the world upon metal jets.
Philippequint.com is brimming with vibe.
Catch him Sat night in Shreveport with Michael Butterman and the SSO. Tickets, too.
