The New Orleans Fringe Fest is an alternative theater festival scheduled for Nov. 14 to 18, says Doug McCash at

“The Fringe welcomes virtually any type of theater performance - the wilder and the weirder, the better," says the fest. "We particularly encourage original works or innovative adaptations. Categories include: cabaret, circus arts, comedy, dance, drama, improvisational, interdisciplinary, multimedia, musical theater, poetry, puppetry, storytelling, burlesque, sideshow, spoken word, variety and other creative madness.”

In addition to the 24 venues managed by Fringe Fest (deadline was July 2), performers may apply for “BYOV” slots in the fest (deadline Sept 15).

According to the Fringe website, “BYOVenues can be performed anywhere within the city of New Orleans. Be creative when you think of BYOV options: swimming pools, empty lots, bridges, corner bars, living rooms and front porches are all great places for theater. You do need to get permission from the owner.”

Inspired by the Edinburgh Fringe, the NO Fringe has been at work since 2008.

The Fringe application fee is $25. For applications and details go to
