A no charge Bike Workshop at Uptown Shopping Center parking lot will take place Sun, May 18, from 1:30 to 4:30, says Sally Spruiell.
The idea is to help you get your bikes out of the garage and get them pumped up and in gear for riding, says Ian Webb.
Riders will find:
- Trained bicycle mechanics from River City Cycling on hand to inflate tubes, check brakes and gears, perform safety checks, and get your bikes ready to ride for the summer.
- Experts on hand to discuss riding your bike for every day errands like shopping and commuting to work or school.
- The Shreveport Police Department Mounted Patrol there to talk about safety, cycling and the law.
- Displays of products to help you reduce your dependence on your car and help you get into shape by comfortably using your bike more.
The workshop, designed to enhance Shreveport's bike energy, is being sponsored by
- A BetterShreveport.blogspot.com
- Historic South Highlands Neighborhood Association

I am very happy to see more and more cyclists in the area, especially those that know to ride on the correct side of the road. However, as they ride through my neighborhood at 5:30 in the morning, I hope they will become aware that people are asleep in the houses and that their voices carry beyond the other side of the street into those houses. Otherwise, I may have to form the River City Slingshot Association!
How picky. So i do not guess people should do anything until you get out of bed. I work nights. I do not complain about the numerous lawn services and other commotions taking place during the day. I ride my cruiser through the neighborhood during all hours of the night when I am off work. I consider those law abiding neighbors out on the streets early or late as watch dogs for the rest of the neighbors that are sleeping soundly.
