Yazzy concert at the Strand Fri, Ap 20, to feature students plus Chico Hamilton, percussion, Bobbie Humphreys, flute, and Michael Ward, violin

Yazzy is the name for Theater of the Performing Arts' annual jazz concert for students and music teachers, says Gloria Gipson. At Yazzy the young heads can have big ears around the cool heads. Which means TPA director Gipson invites well-known jazzers to town so they can workshop our players of the future.

Legendary percussionist Chico Hamilton - a national treasure - as well as flautist Bobbie Humphreys and jazz violinist Michael Ward are the 07 guests.

Sat at noon rehearsals begin at Huntington HS under music teachers Beverly Houston, Clifton Jenkins and Huntington band director Brandon Bates. Yazzy creative directors include Larry Pierson, Doris L Johnson, Julie Lester, Sherricka Fields, Donald Walters and Walter Washington.

The concert with Hamilton, Humphreys and Ward:
Fri, Ap 20, 7 pm, at the Strand Theater.
Tickets: $20 adults, $10 students and seniors.
