"I've worked as a seamstress for movie productions for some time now," says Jane Ryder. "Among my work has been the gowns worn by actress Megan Brown for the premieres of the Kevin Costner movie Mr Brooks. When I began to collect the names of local artists and craftsmen for a shop to be called Designers Consortium, someone said 'Jane, you should put together an entire movie crew.'"
Thus we watch the evolution of the ancillary pieces of the movie production puzzle.
The new boutique, aimed at serving the movie industry as well as the public, is located at 208 E. King's Highway in Shreveport, across from Counter Culture. It will open Saturday, says Ms Ryder. Included in the opening roster:

Fashion & accessory talent, photography and art wanted at Designer Consortium, 208 E King's Hwy, Shreveport
The Designer Consortium is looking for new talent from the area, especially in the field of fashion / accessory design and art / photography, says Jane Ryder.
She reports that "We currently have three fashion designers (covering day/evening fashion, lingerie and accessories), three jewelry designers (one vintage), one mixed media designer, soy candle designer, and pet couture and beds. We are also offering custom sewing, sewing lessons, and alterations. The store can also be used for private appointments, art/photography exhibitions, fashion trunk shows, etc."

The King's Highway corridor continues to develop its shop role: pr from the new Designer's Consortium
King's Highway holds fabulous potential to become a complete specialty shopper's alley for people nipping off I-49 for a peek at soulful Shreveport.
Of course, it's partway there. It begins with the deluxe landscaping used by Raisin Caine's store at King's Hwy. Even the shrubbery at the McDonald's seems laudable. The upgraded landscaping and signage at Byrd High School plays an important part. Columbia Cafe is certainly a significant node on the ride.
When you cross Creswell, you are soothed by the considerable efforts of Centenary College. And there, clustered around the super house center called Centenary Hardware, are the target boutiques. I'm not thinking of the antique shops, which are important mainstays, but Counter Culture and the clothes shop called Heart and Soul. Both seem to have done well and offer models for the future.
With that in mind, here's what seems to be a good idea:

Jane Ryder's shop, Designers' Emporium, brings together creative types at 208 E King's Hwy
"We have original, one-of-a-kind fashion, jewelry, accessories, pet couture, shellwork, and much more," says Jane Ryder at Designer's Emporium. "We are currently creating custom-made clothing and accessories for Mardi Gras, prom, debutante events, etc. for the New Year. I have just finished working on the Lifetime movie "Queen Sized" with Nicky Blonsky (just nominated for a Golden Globe in "Hairspray") and now I'm working on "Sordid Lives: The Series." I've actually been creating some costumes for the latter. We have been getting a lot of movie people in the store including costumers and a film producer over this past week. We have also created some personal pieces for them, including a raincoat for a costume designer's dog!"
Designer Consortium, 208 E. King's Highway - across from Counter Culture - will be open until 8pm on Friday, Dec 21, for late night Christmas shopping and refreshments.
