Rearranging the Strand's rafters with the Tedeschi Trucks Band on Wed, Ap 1 , 8 pm

Singers galore, horn section, 2 drummers, etc: an 11-piece band is an outlier today. It would seem that the Tedeschi Trucks Band is an exceptional outlier.

In their Strand Theater, Shreveport, show, the audience will expect very musical, soulful r & b-flavored tunes and slide guitar that tastes like Silver Moon BBQ. Do not expect to sit down very much. The mojo will be wall-to-wall.

Highland and Cedar Grove will be organizing peace marches in response to the shootings this month and in an effort to get caring neighbors visible and united to show that we are standing for communities that are safe and loving, says Alex Hensley. Statewide debate and speech tournament being hosted by Caddo Magnet HS Thurs, Mar 26 through Sat, Mar 28

The state debate and speech tournament, called the Tournament of Champions 2015, is being hosted by Caddo Magnet HS and Centenary College Thurs, Mar 26 through Sat, Mar 28, says debate teacher Neill Normand.

Volunteer judges are being enrolled at http://goo.gl/forms/qtTSqdEpu4. Judges will be given criteria sheets and need not be experienced. “Judging speech and drama events is an entertaining and enlightening experience,” says teacher Robert Trudeau.

“Almost 300 students will compete in a variety of events including original interpretation, policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, original oratory, and extemporaneous speaking, along with many other events. This is a riveting tournament for Louisiana’s best in high school forensics,” said Caddo debater Madelyn Gaharan. Said Normand, “Some 500 visitors to the city will be eating in restaurants and staying in Shreveport hotels.”

Thurs. and Friday mornings’ events will be at Centenary; the afternoon and evening sessions will be in classrooms at CMHS, beginning at 3:45 pm and spanning one hour increments.

Students from some 31 schools are trekking to Shreveport for the event, says Normand.

Roosevelt Presidential Library, and the Creative Action Network, San Francisco, the See America graphics exhibition at Meadows Museum documents the “See America” advertising campaign from the 1930s to present. Begun under President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, this poster series featured our country’s most stunning locations to increase tourism and stimulate the economy during the Great Depression, says Lisa Nicoletti.

Sat, March 14, at 2 pm historian Dr. Sam Shepherd will give a lecture entitled "The WPA: Lifting America with Work of Lasting Value."

Meadows has 2 additional, fresh shows: #exhibit: Reinterpreting Art from the Permanent Collection through Saturday, May 2, 2015.
