The 16th Annual People’s Concert of the Shreveport Symphony will feature the world premiere of a new orchestral composition written by local composer Darrel Andrews. Entitled King’s Wonderful Dream, it incorporates a narration based in part on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Attorney Dannye Malone will serve as narrator, says Kermit Poling, musical director.
The Advanced violinists of the Centenary Suzuki School will perform Fiocco’s Allegro. This group of students mirrors the diversity of the cultures residing in the Ark-La-Tex region. They are from Guam, Paraguay, Vietnam, Korea, Philippines, India, and Honduras.
Angelique Feaster, actress and Artistic Director of Mahagany Ensemble Theatre, will serve as M.C. for this evening of culturally diverse music.
Guest artists for the evening are soloists Kellee Johnson and Royce Moseley.
The Symphony will also be joined by a mass gospel choir composed of singers from Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, Little Union Baptist Church, Midway Baptist Church, and Avenue Baptist Church Choirs, the Lone Wa Sanctuary Singers, ULM Interdenominational Ensemble, Peaceful Baptist Church and Stonewall Baptist Church under the direction of S. Royce Mosely.
The 16th Annual People’s Concert is supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of Shreveport Bossier with additional funding from Louisiana Lottery. The public is invited to enjoy the show without charge.
