Chris Jay, dba King Hippo: final Hippo show at 516 Soundstage Friday, July 8

Media maven Chris Jay makes music both on record - as part of the Pillage People - and in live, rappin' shows. Calls himself King Hippo. But his Friday night show at 516 Soundstage may be his last, if press wrangler Brett Roman has it right.

Having sniffed the possibility of a Farewell Tour, artspace poetry coordinator Mimsy Borogroves has issued Monsieur Hippo an invitation: "I think King Hippo shouuld come do a reading, sans funky beats." That's an invite to the poetry reading at artspace Thursday, July 7.

Wht'up, Hip, wit' yo' media manipulation tha'ng.

I was told that this would be Hippo's last peformance by the man himself. If this happens to bump up the attendace, then thats cool too!

Sometimes it's the Shreepote summer that makes an entertainer want to hang it up. Sometimes it's the lousy fishin. But Mister Hippo, he ain't tellin' this blog nothin' bout why he said what he said.

I'm just wondering what lies behind his decision. I hope he's not hanging it up per se but just making room for bigger and better things.

He has since said that he will be retiring songs, not necessarily himself. Yay - Conchiat
