Requiescat in pace: Hunter S. Thompson

Not one of his big fans, I must admit that Thompson's heroic and spasm-inducing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas stunned me. It bore down like a skidding cauldron of oxidatious alkaloids.

For my generation no movie could possibly fly like Thompson's winged prose.

I'm almost certain HST spent a couple of weeks in the late 1960s sleeping on a pool table in the back room at the Pizza King on Kings Hwy. He would, while bussing tables and performing other menial chores for the proprietor Bob Huck, often insert himself intrusively into beery conversations at tables of the more intellectual undergrads. Once, he grabbed at the throat of a particularly insufferable young man who was reciting a passage from a Camus novel to an attractive sophomore coed and screamed: "read Hegel you candyass!!" He then spun around, walked to the patio out back and fired two rounds from his revolver into the air.

Looks like someone's had enough poison to commence channeling the spirit of the cuddly and late Mr. Thompson. Lol.
