Academy Award Winner William Joyce and DreamWorks Animation will present the Louisiana Premiere of Rise of the Guardians at The Strand Theatre on

The Grand Opening of the exhibition “The Making of…Guardians” opens at artspace after the premier.
The event will begin at 6:30 pm with an introduction of the film by the Executive Producer William Joyce and Production Designer Patrick Hanenberger.
Immediately following the premiere, audience members will follow Nicholas St. North in a parade down Louisiana Avenue, under a cascade of confetti, to artspace.
Therein a first look at the exhibition celebrating the Guardians with a Street Party complete with live music by Brady Blade & Friends.
Tickets to the event are $100 each or $350 for a group of 4 and can be purchased through The Strand Theatre box office at (318) 226-1481. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit artspace, Robinson Film Center and The Strand Theatre.

Among the new vendors at Texas Avenue Makers Fair on Sat, Nov 10, 10 to 5 pm: jewelry and decor designer EllenDeeNola
Chockablock with artisanal goodness, I highly recommend reading the list of vendors ready for the Texas Ave Makers Fair. Having skimmed the list, a thought remains: bring more money to the fair.
Among the fresh vendors is charming recent transplant Laura D'Arcangelo, aka EllenDeeNola. On her Etsy site she says, " I have moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to finish school and have a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans. I do miss the city already but this has been a great change for me! I am letting myself get inspired by my new home, and I have been busy whipping up some new jewelry for you!"

Movie review: Ben Affleck's historic drama Argo is a feel-good movie that's good for us
Ben Affleck's adventure movie, Argo, is a fast-paced espionage story. Yet it is based on a historic event. It is the story of one chapter in the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis: the rescue of 6 American diplomatic workers who slipped through the Iranian revolutionaries' net.
While it appeals to people who were alive during the Carter era, I recommend it to all audiences. The mistakes made by the CIA, by the State Dept and the President are palpable. It opens a door that could lead to learning more about Iran as well as the CIA.
It's a rare piece: a feel-good movie that's good for us.

"Shreveport Farmers’ Market will open for the fall season on Saturday, October 27, at 8:00 am," says Noma Fowler-Sandlin.

The Market Café will offer a variety of ready to eat foods from cultures, and domestic, old-fashioned favorites. Music will further enhance the outdoor dining area in the Market Café tent. An array of

tomatoes, pumpkins, and various greens.

Double Standard: Photographs by Rachul McClintic
The photographs of Rachul McClintic reference the sexual double standard placed on women that often hinders sexual as well as other freedoms. Of her work, McClintic states, “From my experience and observation many intimate relationships contribute to sexual objectification, fixations, and destructive obsessions. To assert visual gender commentary, my work utilizes body language, symbolic spaces and autobiographical subject matter.” McClintic is the sole photographer and director of a photographic shoot and often places herself in images as part of the subject matter. Her work continuously debates and visually reverses sexual double standards and is a process that McClintic describes as “evolutionary and revealing.”

Barnwell future uncertain: artists, gardeners, art patrons invited to meeting Mon, Oct 22, 6 pm
Follow-up Community Meeting, Monday, Oct. 22, 6:00PM
The city will hold a follow-up community meeting to seek input regarding the direction of the Barnwell renovation in 2013. The Barnwell will close at the end of 2013, and the city is considering different options for the future.
The architect will present proposals for use of the bond revenues allocated for the Barnwell. All stakeholders (patrons, artists, gardeners, club members, etc.) are encouraged to attend to express their views about this important step in
the Barnwell's future.
