No director was credited in the program because there was none other than SSO resident conductor Poling--this was not a theatre piece, but a unique hybrid. The dancers were simply providing atmosphere by representing spirits and ghosts, so of course their routine appeared random. The point of tubist Wolfe's interjections was to make the audience wonder whether they were scripted or improvised (I don't know what the misused term "a capella" has to do with this discussion), and judging by the audience's laughter and applause, these moments of levity worked very well. Overall, the concert was spectacular, so I found Mr. Trudeau's review disturbing in its negativity.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
