Rearranging the Strand's rafters with the Tedeschi Trucks Band on Wed, Ap 1 , 8 pm

Tedeschi Trucks

Singers galore, horn section, 2 drummers, etc: an 11-piece band is an outlier today. It would seem that the Tedeschi Trucks Band is an exceptional outlier.

In their Strand Theater, Shreveport, show, the audience will expect very musical, soulful r & b-flavored tunes and slide guitar that tastes like Silver Moon BBQ. Do not expect to sit down very much. The mojo will be wall-to-wall.

Samples.

Tickets.

Shout to Shreveport from Susan Tedeschi to interviewer Tiana Kennell: "One of my biggest influences when I went to college — I graduated from Berklee College of Music — was my choir director, Dennis Montgomery III. He was also a choir director in his hometown of Shreveport when he was young." Montgomery, a graduate of Caddo Magnet HS and from a prominent family of Shreveport musicians, has taught music at Berklee for decades.

Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" a highly recommended drama; SLT performances continue Mar 6 and Mar 7 @ 8 pm and Mar 8 @ 2 pm

Arthur Miller's All My Sons, Shreveport Little Theater

"Audiences have been good for this drama, which is very encouraging," said actress Cara Johnston of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons," a Shreveport Little Theater production.

Says actress-director Patti Reeves, "Be on guard when you see Shreveport Little Theatre's production of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons." The first act may lull you into believing this is a typical community theatre project, but be on guard; the second act will hit you in the solar plexus and leave you breathless. Powerful performances by Shawn Dion, Ginger Darnell Folmer and Cara Johnston. And newcomer Miles Jay Oliver proved he could hold his own with these powerhouses. Other outstanding performances in smaller roles came from Sloan Folmer and Bo Harris. The set is beautiful and OH- to be able to create pictures and moments like director, Richard Folmer It is a rare opportunity to see a classic drama in this town."

Upon consideration, Mrs. Reeves added, "Last night when I was bragging on "All My Sons" I mentioned how rare it was to see drama in this town. I was speaking of community theatre. 80% are comedies and musicals. You do occasionally see drama in community theatre, such as last year's "Diary of Anne Frank" at SLT; "98 Charring Cross Road" at Emmett Hook. Where you Do See drama is college and River City Rep which is about 80% drama and 20% comedy. Saw Shakespeare and Moliere at Centenary recently with some of my former students taking part. My point was that "All My Sons" is a solid production with some outstanding performances and I was enjoying the fact that this was done by Community Theater! By actors who, for the most part, work during the day and have families and yet, still choose, for no remuneration, to sacrifice weeks of late nights to bring the gift of theatre to audiences. I just love that!"

Highly recommended by Shreveport Blog, too.

Tickets, $20 and 10. (318) 424-4439.

Thanks to Jamie Killeen at SLT and to Cara Johnston for speaking to Fine Arts Survey students at Caddo Magnet HS about the joys and travails of being an actress.

Paintings by Penelope Przekop, Shreveport to Philadelphia, at Norsworthy Galley on Sat, Mar 7, 4 to 6 pm

Penelope Przekop @ Norsworthy Gallery

"I was raised in the US Deep South; Louisiana, to be exact. I grew up in the midst of an extended Christian family focused on fundamental values which included speaking in tongues, Bible studies, church three times a week, Christian outreach, Sunday school, church camp, family prayers, laying on of hands, hands reaching up to God, and dancing in the aisles.

Many of my relatives were well meaning but some were troubled. In the end, they were all merely human.

I was taught through the church, and the Southern culture supporting it, that men are inherently superior to women." So says artist and writer Penelope Przekop, whose mixed media paintings will be on display at Norsworthy Gallery, 214 Texas St, from March 7 to Mar 28.

She continues, "I was taught that sex was bad."

"I’m writing about this because I just finished a work of art titled, “Deconstruction of a Southern Girl (the haunting).”(below)

Przekop has been a painter since 2008; she spent the first half of her adult life writing fiction. She is the author of five books, including four novels. Her art often includes a strong sense of character and story, says Chris Bailey. She graduated from Northwood High School and LSUS. She has a Master’s Degree from Kennesaw State University. Her father is teacher Bill Hall, her mother is designer Jane Haden.

Meet the artist Sat, Mar 7, 4 to 6 pm.

Care about the Camp Minden munitions burn? Encouragement from Lt Gen Russell Honore at Minden Civic Center 7 pm Tues, Mar 3

Lydia Thomas

Lt. Gen. Russel Honore (Ret.), of the Louisiana environmental aggregation Green Army, will encourage efforts to stop federal and state agencies from using the open tray burn method at Camp Minden in a Stop The Burn Rally at the Minden Civic Center on Tues, Mar 3, 7 pm, says Chris Broussard.

The fate of what is said to be the biggest stockpile of munitions in U.S. history is open to question.

“We really want to support the efforts of those actively engaged in solving this monumental challenge,” Broussard said. “There are many people involved in moving forward with safe disposal now and all eyes are on Louisiana and how we solve this.”
